Julie Paterson

Julie’s lens is drawn to a world of water and light.

Growing up on the rugged west coast of Scotland, she was surrounded by wild landscapes, ever-changing skies, and the quiet rhythm of country life. A desire to capture the beauty and diversity of natural forms inspired her early photography.

Now living close to the water on Scotland Island, she spends countless hours paddling her surfski across Pittwater, camera close at hand, searching out fleeting moments when wind, water, light, and tide come together to create a ripple of colour, or a reflection that exists for an instant. She sees these rapidly-changing patterns as abstract works crafted entirely by nature.

“From the movement of water, wind and light,” she says. “Each image is a reminder of how nature, when left to its own rhythm, creates something truly extraordinary and unrepeatable.”
