Barbara Messerle

Barbara has experimented with many creative pursuits including knitting and playing violin in various ensembles, but her aunt, a successful professional potter, has been a deep source of inspiration for her current love of clay.

After moving to Little Lovett Bay in Pittwater, six years ago, Barbara started learning the skills of hand building and wheel-throwing pottery and immersed herself in the art of ceramics. She uses stoneware and porcelain clays and enjoys glazing, particularly painting native wild flowers on her pots.

As Barbara hikes and cycles local the trails, the subtle seasonal changes of the flora of Kurringai Chase National Park, with different textures, colours and shapes, provide endless stimulus for her creativity.
