Jon Matthews

Jon’s imagery leans towards the personal exploration of isolation and loneliness, finding these themes within both the natural world and stark urban landscapes.

Jon spent 35 years as a professional cameraman and Director of Photography. His career spanned all genres, with a strong focus on documentary and current affairs for major Australian and international broadcasters. 

Since retiring from the commercial world, Jon has concentrated on stills photography. Much of his work is abstract and mainly compositionally driven. Rather than presenting an obvious narrative, he aims to create images that give people pause, offering them a reason to stop, linger and discover something within the frame that resonates for them.
