Mike Hall

Mike is a potter and ceramic artist who works from his home studio amidst the spotted gums on the eastern slopes of Scotland Island.

He creates functional pieces for daily use, aiming to make a favourite go-to bowl, cup, mug or plate for each of his customers. He sells his tableware from a market stall once a month at North Sydney produce market. 

Mike is committed to a continuous process of learning and testing materials and techniques. He mixes his own glazes and fires a kiln he built himself. He often uses clay and other materials dug up by local building and landscaping. 

Place, community, simple living, thoughtful use of materials and age-old practices of ceramics are central to his work. Natural forms, processes, textures, patterns and colours are a constant inspiration.
