Peggy Hukavainen
Peggy has always been drawn to the sea, leading her to sail, swim and explore beaches wherever and whenever she could. That love eventually brought her to live on Scotland Island where the water and shoreline are an everyday part of her life.
Peggy is curious about what the tide leaves behind. She collects sea glass, shells and driftwood locally, and from shorelines around the world. She is particularly fascinated by sea glass, fragments of discarded bottles transformed by years of salt water, sand and shifting tides into smooth, luminous pieces.
After years of collecting these treasures, Peggy’s beachcombing has grown into a creative practice. She gives these weathered fragments new life as jewellery, wall hangings and sculptural displays, celebrating the beauty of the found, the weathered and the transformed.
